BOWIE, MD - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced endorsements from critical leaders in education including the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) and the National Education Association (NEA). The Maryland State Education Association is a chapter of the NEA, a nationwide organization representing over 3 million educators and 14,000 communities; they work to strengthen the standard of excellence in public education and help advance policies that create better environments for students.
"The future of our country begins in the classroom, and nothing is more important than ensuring our students are put on a pathway for success," said Congressman Hoyer. "I'm so glad to have received endorsements from the National Education Association and the Maryland State Education Association. As Majority Leader, I have been proud to help our schools meet the needs of students during the COVID-19 pandemic. With critical measures like the American Rescue Plan, schools in Maryland and around the country were able to safely re-open and get students back on track. The historic American Rescue Plan provided federal funding to schools to enhance every public school's ability to close unequal education gaps and ensure young people in all areas are able to succeed. I will continue working alongside organizations including NEA and MSEA to make sure that we continue to build on the progress of our students."
"On behalf of the National Association Fund for the Children and Public Education (the political action committee of NEA), I am pleased to announce our support of Congressman Hoyer's campaign for Maryland's Fifth Congressional District election. We believe Congressman Hoyer's record as a strong advocate for public education and organized labor makes him the best candidate in the race. Our action in this race comes from the recommendation of our state affiliate, the Maryland State Education Association," said Katrina Mendiola, National Political Director of NEA Campaigns and Election.
