Hoyer Attends Health Care Forum with Senator Chris Van Hollen
BOWIE, MD – This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) joined Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) at Greater Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Church for a forum to discuss the severe consequences TrumpCare will have on thousands of Maryland families.
“I want to thank Senator Van Hollen and Pastor Jonathan Weaver for hosting this important discussion,” said Congressman Hoyer. “Right now, Republicans in Congress are attempting to jam through their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Crafted in secret behind closed doors, the Senate TrumpCare bill mirrors the same unpopular, and dangerous legislation narrowly passed by the House. TrumpCare would kick thousands of Marylanders off of their health insurance; deny tax credits to working families; discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions, like asthma; and allow insurers to charge higher premiums on older Americans. It would also force states to drop millions of Americans from Medicaid and cut benefits to the most vulnerable in our society, including children, people with disabilities, and seniors in nursing homes.”
“In the words of President Trump himself, TrumpCare is ‘mean,’” continued Congressman Hoyer. “So many families in our state are now living in fear of what would happen to them or their loved ones if Republicans succeed in repealing the Affordable Care Act. I’m glad to be joined by Senator Van Hollen in the fight against this extremely dangerous legislation, and I want to thank the Senator, as well as health care leaders from across Maryland, for having this discussion. It’s important now more than ever that we arm ourselves with facts and analysis to effectively fight against TrumpCare, and work to ensure all Marylanders have access to quality, affordable health care.”
