Hoyer Discusses the Opioid Crisis with Prince George's County Chamber of Commerce
LANHAM, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) met with members of the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce and representatives from Leidos this afternoon to discuss steps the business community is taking to address the opioid crisis. The Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce also presented on various initiatives they are focused on, including economic development, education, health care, and sustainability.
“I appreciated the opportunity to meet with members of the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce and Leidos this afternoon to discuss the impact of the opioid crisis on our community,” said Congressman Hoyer. “Working with the business community, health care stakeholders, law enforcement, and other leaders to take steps to address the epidemic must remain a priority of Congress. Prince George’s County now has the fourth-highest total opioid-related deaths of any county in our state. The severe lack of access to quality substance abuse treatment is crippling our ability to tackle the crisis. We must take a comprehensive approach to expanding access to treatment.”
“I am encouraged that companies like Leidos are taking steps to address the opioid epidemic in the private sector,” continued Congressman Hoyer. “When our businesses create an environment where employees can talk openly and ask for help, it goes a very long way. I was glad to discuss the different ways the Chamber and Leidos can work together in our community to promote a greater awareness and support addiction recovery.”
