Hoyer Endorsed by Major Labor Unions
BOWIE, MD -- Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) today announced that he has received endorsements from the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA); International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 26; and United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400. UA, one of America's oldest labor unions, represents more than 350,000 plumbers, pipefitters, welders, and other skilled tradespeople across North America. IBEW Local 26 represents thousands of electricians in the National Capital Region. UFCW Local 400 represents 35,000 members in the food processing, health care, and retail sales industries.
"I'm honored to have the support of the UA, IBEW Local 26, and UFCW Local 400, whose members continue to play a major role not only in our local Fifth District economy but also in the broader movement for workers' rights," Congressman Hoyer said. "I look forward to continuing to work closely with the UA, IBEW, and UFCW, and with organized labor throughout the Fifth District and at the national level to ensure that Maryland workers can bargain collectively and access the opportunities that make the American Dream possible."
“We’re proud to stand with Leader Hoyer because we know he will continue to have our back in Washington,” said Mark McManus, UA General President. “Leader Hoyer is a fierce ally who understands the daily grind our members face, especially during this time of crisis and uncertainty. Our members can go to work, safely, knowing that they have a strong advocate in Congress to protect their wages, benefits, and healthcare. Leader Hoyer has been a consistent friend of the UA, and we’re proud to support his campaign.”
“Leader Hoyer’s experience speaks for itself. He has championed UA families throughout his time in Congress, always protecting our wages and benefits,” said Shawn Broadrick, UA International Representative. “Working families have a true fighter in Leader Hoyer, and all UA members can be confident that their voice is heard on Capitol Hill.”
"IBEW Local 26 is proud to endorse Congressman Hoyer for reelection," said George Hogan, IBEW Local 26 Business Manager. "Congressman Hoyer has stood with workers and for collective bargaining rights throughout his time in public service. He has amassed a strong record of success as an advocate for working people in Maryland and their families, having worked for better pay and stronger safety standards and to achieve historic victories like enactment of the Affordable Care Act and House passage of the PRO Act. We know he will continue to use his experience to stand up for electricians and for all workers in Congress."
"Congressman Hoyer has been a steadfast ally to our members and to all working people in Maryland and nationwide," said Mark Federici, President, UFCW Local 400. "He has spent his career fighting for workers' right to bargain collectively and to secure higher wages and access to opportunities like affordable health care, quality education and skills training, homeownership, and retirement security. It is his experience that has made possible victories for Maryland workers, such as passage of the PRO Act through the House this year as well as a strong defense of the Affordable Care Act in recent years. We are proud to endorse Congressman Hoyer for re-election to ensure that the Fifth District has the most effective leader to achieve results for workers and their families."
The primary election for Maryland's Fifth Congressional District will take place on Tuesday, June 2, and ballots will be cast primarily by mail. Ballots must be completed and returned with a postmark no later than June 2 to be counted. No postage is necessary to return a completed ballot by mail.
