Hoyer Endorses Rushern Baker for Governor

Prince George’s County, MD - Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), the dean of the Maryland Congressional delegation, endorsed Rushern Baker III for Governor of Maryland. Congressman Hoyer joins U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett and over twenty state senators, delegates, mayors and sheriffs in endorsing the County Executive’s bid for Governor.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with my good friend Rushern for many years, beginning with his service in the General Assembly, and most recently during his time as Prince George’s County Executive. His list of accomplishments in Prince George’s County don’t begin to capture what a deeply good man he is. A man who chose to work with grassroots community development in D.C. after he graduated from law school. A man who made communities safer and improved the lives of families in Prince George’s County through his impressive term as County Executive. A man who consistently chooses what’s best for his constituents over what’s best for his political career. Rushern Baker is the kind of leader Maryland needs,” said Congressman Hoyer.

“Maryland is being harmed by the dangerous and divisive policies of President Donald Trump, and we don’t need a Governor who follows the political winds. We need a Governor who leads with a moral compass. I know Rushern will do the right thing because of his passion and integrity, and his proven track record of reducing crime and improving job opportunities for families throughout our County. I’m confident Rushern will work to make life better for all Marylanders, and I’m proud to endorse him for Governor,” continued Congressman Hoyer.

“I am honored and humbled to have the endorsement of my friend Congressman Hoyer. Congressman Hoyer is not only a widely respected voice and leader on Capitol Hill, but widely respected among the 5th district and throughout Maryland for his tireless efforts to create jobs, protect Maryland’s natural resources, and meet the transportation needs of his constituents. I am looking forward to working with Steny and the rest of the Congressional delegation to make Maryland a national leader and beacon of good in these troubled times,” said Democratic candidate for governor, Rushern Baker.
