Hoyer Meets With Maryland Health Officials And Stakeholders To Discuss The Affordable Care Act
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today after meeting with Maryland health officials and stakeholders, including Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Van Mitchell; Commissioner of the Maryland Insurance Commission, Al Redmer; and Interim Director of the Maryland Health Benefits Exchange, Jon Kromm:
“Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Maryland has been successful in expanding health coverage to 278,000 additional residents, reducing the uninsured rate from 11.3% to 6.6% in just five years. However, challenges remain and stakeholders must work together to ensure the Maryland Health Benefits Exchange is stable and every Marylander continues to have access to affordable coverage. I thank Secretary Mitchell, Commissioner Redmer, and Director Kromm for meeting with me to discuss their ideas to improve the Maryland marketplace and what steps Congress can take to strengthen the Affordable Care Act in the years to come.”
