Hoyer Statement on the Beginning of the 2020 Open Enrollment Period
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the first day of the 2020 open enrollment period, which continues through December 15:
“Today marks the beginning of the open enrollment period in Maryland. From now through December 15, Marylanders who purchase their health insurance through the health care exchange can sign up for a new health insurance plan or make changes to their current plan. I encourage all families in Maryland to check the rates and coverage of their current plan to ensure it still fits their needs. Many families who sign up for health insurance through the Maryland exchange qualify for financial assistance.
“Since the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, families throughout our state have gained access to quality, affordable health care. I will continue to work in Congress to build on these gains by defending the law against this Administration’s sabotage efforts; protecting and expanding coverage; and lowering health care and prescription drug costs.”
Marylanders can apply for coverage online at MarylandHealthConnection.gov. They can also download the “Enroll MHC” app to shop and apply for coverage on a mobile device. The app is available for free in the App Store (iOS) and the Google Play Store (Android). Free in-person help with enrollment is also available; Marylanders can find assistance close to home by clicking here. Assistance is also available over the phone by calling toll-free 1-855-642-8572 (TTY: 1-855-642-8573) to reach the consumer support center. The deadline to sign up for coverage for 2020 is December 15. For more information on the Maryland Health Connection, click here.
