Hoyer Statement on February Jobs Report
WASHINGTON DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for February: “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Report out today February marked two years of consecutive month-to-month growth in private sector employment. This is a strong sign that our economy is recovering and that our country is on the right path forward. Last month the American economy added 233 000 private sector jobs. This is progress but as long as millions of Americans remain out of work we cannot afford to let our focus shift away from those still out of work and trying hard to find jobs. “That’s why Democrats are continuing to pursue our Make It In America plan for creating jobs and investing in economic competitiveness. Our plan taps into the enduring strength of the American workforce and our historic role as the world’s greatest source of innovation. Since the 112th Congress convened last January Americans have been waiting for Republican leaders to make good on their promise of prioritizing job creation. I hope that House Republicans after over 400 days without introducing a real comprehensive jobs plan will see February’s employment numbers as a sign that they ought to work together with Democrats to consider and pass Make It In America provisions that will carry our recovery forward lay the foundation for long-term middle-class growth and help restore faith in the American Dream for working families.” Jobs and the Economy
