Hoyer Statement On Maryland Legislation To Expand Early Childhood Education
WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement praising the O’Malley-Brown Administration and the Maryland General Assembly on the Pre-Kindergarten Expansion Act of 2014:
“I applaud Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown on making access to early childhood education a top legislative priority and for working with the Maryland General Assembly to enact the Pre-Kindergarten Expansion Act of 2014. This legislation will help enroll an additional 1,600 Maryland children in high-quality Pre-Kindergarten through the expansion of programs, such as Pre-School Service Grants, Pre-Kindergarten Grants, and the Judith P. Hoyer Program, also known as Judy Centers. Maryland schools are among the best in the nation, and by making these investments in early education, the state is helping to ensure that more children enter school better prepared for success. I thank the O’Malley-Brown Administration, Senate President Miller, and House Speaker Busch for working to enact this legislation, and I look forward to continuing to work together to expand access to opportunity and improve educational outcomes for all Maryland students and their families.”
