Hoyer Statement On Military Appreciation Month
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today in recognition of Military Appreciation Month, which is observed during the month of May:
“Americans have always looked to the men and women of our Armed Forces with gratitude and appreciation for placing their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, and as we begin observing National Military Appreciation Month throughout May, let us continue to salute their heroism, service, and sacrifice. Our community is home to world-class military installations, including Pax River, Joint Base Andrews, Indian Head, Webster Field, and others that play a critical role in our national security. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress, with the Administration, and with Governor O’Malley to support their mission and ensure that uniformed and civilian personnel have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep our nation safe.
“I also join in expressing my sincere thanks to military families, whose support sustains their loved-ones in uniform, and our nation’s veterans, who continue to serve as role models to those who have followed in their footsteps. In April, I had the privilege of visiting with members of the military and their families at Joint Base Andrews to hear firsthand about the challenges they face and to discuss ways the federal government can do more to help as their loved-ones serve overseas and as they prepare to make the transition back to civilian life. I will continue to advocate on their behalf, and I remain focused on addressing the challenges facing our nation’s veterans, including the unacceptable claims backlog and unemployment rate.
“This month and throughout the year, let us continue to show our appreciation to all those from Maryland and around the country who wear our nation’s uniform and serve with honor in our military.”
