Hoyer Statement on the New Fifth Congressional District
BOWIE, MD – This evening, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement on the new Maryland Congressional Map, which was signed into law in Annapolis today:
“For more than 40 years, I’ve been proud to serve the people in Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District. It is an honor to represent parts of Prince George’s County, and I've especially enjoyed advancing projects such as the New Consolidated FBI Headquarters, securing investments for initiatives at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, and advocating on behalf of the Goddard Space Flight Center. While I am disappointed that the new Fifth District does not include College Park - including my beloved alma mater the University of Maryland - Greenbelt, Hyattsville, and other Prince George's communities, I will continue to champion them in Congress on the issues that I've fought for throughout my career.
“As the new Congressional map for Maryland is signed into law today, I am excited to announce that I am running to represent the new Fifth Congressional District. I hope to build on my progress for Maryland's Fifth on behalf of its constituents, including expanding economic opportunity across the District; strengthening quality, affordable health care for all; protecting federal employees; ensuring our environment is taken care of for future generations; and so much more. I look forward to running in the new Fifth Congressional District and reflecting the priorities of its residents in my work in Congress.”
