Hoyer Statement on the Opening Day of the Maryland General Assembly
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the first day of the 439th session of the Maryland General Assembly:
"As we welcome the start of a new session of the Maryland General Assembly, I encourage my colleagues in Annapolis to take action on the issues most important to families in Maryland, including lowering health care costs, taking action to protect the Chesapeake Bay and other vital resources, improving education and supporting our teachers, and expanding access to economic opportunity.
“I’m working hard in Washington to reopen government and end this Republican-led shutdown, which is putting the livelihood of many Marylanders at risk, so that we can then turn to the business of the American people. In order to get things done for our constituents, we must embrace compromise and work together in a bipartisan manner. I hope the members of the General Assembly will embrace that spirit of bipartisanship to address the needs of all Marylanders, and I look forward to working with them to help improve the safety and well-being of families throughout our state."
