Hoyer Statement on the Opening Day of the Maryland General Assembly
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today on the beginning of 441st session of the Maryland General Assembly:
“Today is a historic day in the state of Maryland. As we begin a new session of the Maryland General Assembly, I look forward to the critical work my colleagues in Annapolis will do under the leadership of Speaker Adrienne A. Jones, the first African American and woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Delegates, and Senate President William C. ‘Bill’ Ferguson IV, who succeeds former Senate President Thomas V. ‘Mike’ Miller Jr. From moving forward with the recommendations of the Kirwan Commission and increasing investments in our schools to tackling climate change and improving health care affordability, I hope this Session will be one of great progress for families in our state.
“While I am disappointed that I am unable to be there in person on this historic occasion, I join with all my colleagues in the Maryland Congressional Delegation in wishing members of the General Assembly a very productive Session.”
