Hoyer Statement on the Passage of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement tonight after the House of Representatives passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act:

“As our state and our nation confront a growing public health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, I brought critical legislation to the House Floor tonight to address some of the economic impacts that families will face in the days and weeks ahead. This bill, which passed the House with a strong bipartisan vote, ensures testing for the coronavirus is free for all Americans; secures paid sick leave and paid family and medical leave; enhances unemployment insurance to help workers; and ensures that students, seniors, and low-income households can continue to access nutrition assistance.

“Democrats and Republicans worked together to reach bipartisan agreement on this critically important legislation, and I urge swift passage in the Senate so that it can be signed into law without delay.  I will continue to monitor the spread of the coronavirus in Maryland and work with my colleagues to ensure our communities have the resources they need to respond to this public health crisis.”
