Hoyer Statement on the Trump Administration's Announcement to Declare the Opioid Epidemic a Public Health Emergency
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after the Trump Administration declared the ongoing opioid epidemic a public health emergency:
“The opioid epidemic has been felt personally by thousands of families across our state. While I welcome today’s announcement by the Trump Administration to declare the epidemic a public health emergency, more must be done to address this growing crisis. The federal government must work with states, including Maryland, to allocate additional resources to effectively respond to the opioid epidemic and help those struggling with addiction. I will continue to work with community leaders and my colleagues in Congress to address the opioid crisis in the Fifth District and throughout the state of Maryland.”
