Hoyer Statement on Winning Democratic Primary in Maryland’s Fifth District
BOWIE, MD - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement this evening after winning the Maryland Democratic Primary in Maryland’s Fifth District:
"I am deeply honored to be entrusted by Democrats in the Fifth District as their candidate for Congress in this year’s critical General Election. I have been proud to serve as our district's Congressman and deliver results for Fifth District families, including fighting for lower prescription drug costs, safer communities, and more opportunities for all to Make It In Maryland.
"During the General Election this November, the values, character, and very soul of America are at risk. Freedom will be on the ballot, and I am committed to representing the interests of voters in the Fifth District. As your Congressman, I will continue working hard to bring resources and opportunities back to our district, including securing full funding for the consolidated FBI Headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland, while maintaining the best and most responsive constituent services.
"As we unite and look toward the General Election, I am more determined than ever to help the Democratic Party take back the House of Representatives. Under the leadership of today’s Republican House Majority, Congress passed only 34 bills in 2023 - the lowest number of bills passed in the first year of a congressional session since the Great Depression. There is too much at stake in our country and around the world to allow this irresponsible inaction and dysfunction to continue. I look forward to working with Democrats at every level of government to reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as send a Democrat to represent Maryland in the United States Senate."
