Joint Statement on Larry Hogan’s Super PAC Smearing Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD – Congressmen Steny Hoyer and Glenn Ivey, who have collectively represented Prince George’s County for over 44 years in Congress, released the following statement in response to the latest ad from Larry Hogan:

“The latest Larry Hogan ad is yet another example of Larry Hogan adopting Donald Trump’s politics of character assassination. It’s a scurrilous attempt to smear Prince George’s County and the people who live here. Just this weekend, we heard deeply offensive rhetoric about Puerto Rico during Donald Trump’s Rally. Now, with this latest attack on Prince George’s County, it is becoming more and more apparent that Hogan is borrowing tactics from the Republican playbook – attacking majority-minority communities to score political ‘points.’

“It’s offensive. It’s wrong. And it has no place in our politics. Larry Hogan and his allies are attempting to denigrate the character of the people in our County. These types of attacks are simply not who we are as Marylanders and as Americans.

“You cannot claim you want to represent the entire state in the U.S. Senate if you’ve already decided that 960,000 people are ‘corrupt.’ That’s what Larry Hogan and his billionaire allies decided to do in this latest ad.

“The politics of dividing our state and our country must come to an end. Angela Alsbrooks is a woman of integrity who has dedicated her life to public service. Prince George’s County is an incredible place and economic engine for our great state. We are proud that Angela has always stood up for Prince George’s County. In the Senate, we know she will do the same for all of Maryland.”
